Ocean-based solutions: from blue carbon to ocean alkalinity enhancement

Description

Ocean warming, acidification, and oxygen loss are threatening marine ecosystems and the communities and societies who depend on them – but the ocean can also play a key role in mitigating and adapting to climate change. Join us at the marine science station in beautiful Villefranche-sur-mer for an evening event which will delve into potential ocean-based approaches to fight climate change, alongside imperative efforts to reduce emissions. Experts from science, economy, conservation, policy and business will debate the potential benefits and disadvantages of two such measures: the protection and restoration of blue carbon ecosystems (a nature-based approach) and ocean alkalinity enhancement (a technological approach).
Followed by reception.
